Mackenzie Wright(Part 2 of 4)

Kenzie had gotten a shower and managed to get on some clothes, an old t-shirt and some shorts, while admiring himself in the mirror. But now he ventured into the garage. He looked at the car. The right fender was damage. It was not a total lie he told Tag, the car was in the garage. Just not a mechanics garage. Kenzie called his father and told him about how he hit an animal on the road. His dad said when they got back from vacation he'd get the body work done cheap and not to worry about it. He reached out with a hand that was still trembling. In the early morning hours he'd been so drunk and high. He only trembled when he saw the damage, only then.

The car sped along with him behind the wheel. He'd had such a good time at Tag's house. They drank and smoked and Neila had given him head. If Tag new he'd really be pissed. Tag was a stocky stout bastard too. Best never let him find out. The car turned on a dime around a curve. The tires squealed and to him it barely registered that he was doing seventy. The road was posted for thirty-five. His vehicle shook and he ended up in the wrong lane for a bit. The sun would be up soon but as now it was still dark. Kenzie was thinking about Neila and how she'd licked and sucked...it began and was over in a flash. He saw the young girl. He tried to swerve out of the way but he heard the slam and her voice. She screamed in strangled fear. The car bounced, seemed to, as he corrected. All too late. Swerving back and forth trying to hold the Mustang in the road. His arms jerked and his legs cramped up. The vehicle came to a stop amid a cloud of smoke. He looked back and saw no one. The woman? No. No, it was a deer or some animal. His mind replayed it over and over until he decided he'd hit an animal. Mackenzie took a deep breath and got out of the car. Early morning fog lay low and the road was quiet. He listened. He could not see if anyone was in the ditch or off the road in the woods. An animal. He got back into the car, heart pumping, mouth dry and throat burning. Everything seemed intense now. He drove away.

"Hey." Tag called from the doorway. He was in the house heading for the garage. Kenzie jumped and removed his hand from the fender. "Hang on." Kenzie met him in the laundry room. Tag was a little short than Kenzie but a rather broad fellow. His hair cut short and his eyes were wide apart. Tag's forearms could have been constructed from cord wood. He was wearing a Budweiser shirt and cargo pants and looking altogether grungy. He smelled too, just a hint of musk. "Come on lets get going."

Once in the car Tag asked, "Hey what is the deal with your car?" Kenzie waved it off and then responded anyway, "Nothing, just needs some work." Tag left it alone. He didn't want to make Kenzie mad especially if he was going to get him pussy tonight. Kenzie seemed to be very good at getting women to do things and what Neila didn't know wouldn't hurt her. They drove the rest of the way in silence.

The party had been going for about an hour by the time they got to the place and already several people were toasted. Kenzie went right to work too. He started chatting up Elaine. Elaine was supposed to be good friends with Kenzie and nothing more. She wasn't attached to anyone so she was low priority for Kenzie. But Elaine did like Tag. Kenzie decided he could use that to advantage. Tag was just terrible at talking to women and so Kenzie would help him out if he could help himself out along the way. The music was going and it was like every other party he'd been to around these same people but something was different. Kenzie felt sad, no, or lonely? Hollow. Kenzie snatched a bottle of Vodka from the bar and chugged a few swigs. Now he wasn't so hollow any more. Everything is fine his inner voice said. 'You hit a deer.'
